51명의 등록된 경제전문가들을 대상으로 하는 이번 조사에서는 4/4분기 미국 경제성장율이 연율 2.5%로 예상되어 3/4분기 때의 예상치 2.9%보다 0.4%포인트 낮아졌다.
내년 1/4분기 성장률 전망치는 2.9%에서 2.7%로 낮아졌다.
올해 전체 성장률 전망치는 3.3%, 내년은 2.6%로 경기둔화전망이 확연해졌다. 올해 초 서베이 당시만 해도 내년 성장률 전망치는 3.2%로 나온 바 있다.
이 같은 성장률 둔화 전망에도 불구하고 경제전문가들은 고용시장은 별다른 영향을 받지 않을 것으로 내다봤다.
올해 평균실업률은 4.7%로 이전 전망과 같았고, 내년 평균실업률 전망치는 4.8%로 이전 4.9%보다 약간 내려갔다. 월간 일자리 증가규모는 올해 월 평균 15만5,000개, 내년 월 평균 11만9,000개로 예상되어 이전 분기 예상치(2006년 15만4,000개, 2007년 12만6,000개)에서 올해 전망치는 소폭 상향되고 내년 전망치는 약간 하향되는 수준에 그쳤다.
한편 성장률이 둔화될 것이란 예상은 물가전망 측면에서는 다소 안심할 수 있다는 쪽으로 이어졌다.
필라델피아 연준은 보고서에서 "소비자물가지수나 혹은 GDP디플레이터 모두 단기적인 물가상승 전망이 지난 번 서베이보다 양호해졌다"고 지적했다.
서베이 결과 전문가들은 올해 소비자물가 상승률이 평균 2.4%를 기록할 것으로 전망, 기존 3.3% 상승 전망에서 크게 후퇴했다. 그러나 2007년 소비자물가 상승전망치는 2.6%로 변함이 없어 물가압력이 앞으로 다소 강화될 것임을 예상하는 것으로 확인됐다.
GDP디플레이터는 올해 3.0%에서 내년 2.3%로 둔화세를 예상했다. 전분기 예상치는 올해 3.1%, 내년 2.5%였다.
중장기 물가상승률 전망치는 기존과 비교할 때 별다른 변화가 없었다.
2008년 소비자물가상승률 전망은 2.50%, 향후 5년간 평균 상승률은 2.60% 그리고 이어지는 5년간은 2.50%로 예상되어 3/4분기 서베이 결과와 비교할 때 변화가 없었다. 향후 10년간 평균으로 볼 때 소비자물가 상승률은 2.50%를 유지할 전망이다.
이 같은 물가상승 전망의 후퇴는 금리전망의 하향수정으로 이어졌다. 향후 2년간 미국 재무증권 3개월물 금리는 평균 4.8%로 예상되어 지난 분기 서베이결과(2006년 4.9%, 2007년 5.0%)보다 다소 낮아졌다.
이 단기금리는 두 분기 동안 5.0% 수준을 유지한 뒤 내년 2/4분기와 3/4분기 사이에 하락할 것으로 전망됐다.
한편 장기 시중금리 전망에서 10년물 재무증권 금리는 올해 평균 4.8%, 내년 평균 4.9%로 전망됐다.
